My Biography

Sasha Townsend, Mrs. Oklahoma International 2008, is the happily married wife of Bobby Townsend. She and Bobby reside in Tulsa with their black lab George.

As Mrs. Oklahoma, Sasha speaks to adult and youth audiences about advocacy for children of divorce and offers real-world solutions to help children and families in transition. As an adult child of divorce and long-time volunteer, she has seen first-hand this risk factor in action. It is Sasha's mission to teach others that (1) divorce support for youth is an issue worthy of our attention and (2) there is something we can do to help children of divorce.

Specifically, Sasha is working with community leaders to implement divorce support programming with a peer support focus for children and youth in schools, churches, and community centers across the state of Oklahoma. Sasha supports the Banana Splits program, Rainbows International, and DivorceCare for Kids as three working peer support options for adults who want to help children experiencing the loss of a parent figure.

Sasha also speaks to children, parents, educators, and child care providers about the cause to spread awareness of the great need for divorce support, and teaches marriage enrichment and education classes to promote happy, healthy families and prevent the problem before it starts.

Sasha is also a graduate student and calculus recitation instructor at the University of Tulsa, with aspirations of becoming a math professor. She is a magna cum laude college graduate with degrees in psychology and mathematics from the University of Tulsa and Oklahoma State University respectively. She is also an honors graduate of Blake High School of the Arts in Tampa, Florida, where she studied vocal music and acting. When she's not studying, teaching, tutoring, or volunteering, Sasha loves to dance with her husband, play board games and sing karaoke with her family and friends, study theology and develop her relationship with God. Her goals are to be the best wife, mom (someday), sister, daughter, and friend she can be by loving God, loving others, and serving both.

Sasha competed in the 2008 Mrs. Oklahoma International pageant as Mrs. Tulsa International. In addition to the title, Sasha was voted Mrs. Congeniality by her peers and earned the online people's choice award and the evening wear award. This July at the Mrs. International pageant, Sasha was honored to place fourth runner-up to Mrs. International, Laine Berry, in an amazing group of 47 outstanding women from all over the nation and the world. In 2007, Sasha competed in the Mrs. Oklahoma International pageant as Mrs. Creek County. At the 2007 pageant, Sasha earned the private interview and fitness awards, and placed first runner-up to Mrs. Oklahoma 2007, Brooke Good. Sasha has held many pageant titles over the years, most notably Miss Florida American Teen 1999 in the Miss American Teen organization, a division of American Coed Pageants.
